Barnegat’s development and rich heritage are all based on Barnegat Bay. In its early days, Barnegat was one of the leading seaports in the region with glassmaking, ship building and fishing being prominent industries. Today Barnegat has an active Historic District with parks, shops, antique centers, an historic ice cream parlor, The Hurricane House, and museums. With 6.14 miles of waterfront, Barnegat offers public dock, boardwalk, boat launching facilities, crabbing, fishing and a bathing beach.
The township has 7,494 residential properties. Many of the homes are restored historic properties or converted summer homes. There are also many opportunities to buy new construction in Barnegat and waterfront properties can be affordable in this area, as well.
