Formerly a posh winter resort, Lakewood is now a town in the middle of a revitalization. The home of Georgian Court College, the former Jay Gould estate and Ocean County Park, the former Rockefeller estate, Lakewood has a downtown area which features wide streets and interesting historic storefronts. Home of the Historic Strand Theater, with its renowned Jazz Festival and the Lakewood Blue Claws Baseball team, Lakewood features mixed housing stock of both older homes and new construction. Lakewood also has its own regional hospital, St Barnabas Medical Center.
