Berkeley Township is 42 square miles of land along the Barnegat Bay, whose original residents were fishermen and farmers. The main section of the township is Bayville, originally called Potter’s Creek. The area had many lumber mill operations, the largest of which was Double Trouble Sawmill, now a state park.

The Township which was incorporated in 1875 is located along Barnegat Bay which is part of the inland waterway.  Almost 72% of the Townships land is within the Pinelands National Reserve and  38% of that is within the State's Pineland Area. The Barrier Island, on which South Seaside Park and Island Beach State Park are situated, is the Township's eastern boundary.
Within the Township's borders are the developments of South Seaside Park, Bayville, Pinewald, Manitou Park and Pelican Island on Barnegat Bay.

Berkeley Township has a mix of new construction, small unconverted summer cottages, historic homes, lagoon front homes and stunning bay front architecture. With terrific water access from many marinas and public docks, the water is available to everyone. Cedar Creek Golf Course is the municipal course. Sailing and water sports are a strong draw for this community. Conveniently located with 2 Parkway access points, Berkeley Township is an affordable option for those who are dreaming of living near the water.
