Founded in 1712, Toms River was a whaling, fishing, lumbering and iron making center for nearly a century. The river is the focal point of the community and the Toms River Yacht Club which was founded in the 1800’s is one of the most active in the Barnegat Bay, holding regular regattas from spring to fall. Soccer, YMCA, Little League, 4-H and dozens of other activities are available. The school district is the largest in the state and offers a wide curriculum.
